  • Description:Subject is a very young boy, painted bust size, wearing no clothing and surrounded by clouds at the base of the portrait. He is turned slightly left, has brown hair parted on the right, and is looking partially at the viewer.

  • Notes: John W. Campbell was born ca. 1866 in Tennessee, the son of Alexander William Campbell and his wife, Anne Dixon Allen Campbell of Tennessee, both of whom were also painted by artist Cooper. Mrs. Campbell was painted twice by Cooper, the first time was before her marriage.
