History:If this is truly a work done by James Cameron, then it supercedes the later portrait of George Churchwell (file no. 82.116.8) as the artist's earliest known work. The portrait has been cleaned and restored.
Notes:Rebecca Evelyn Montgomery married George Wellington Churchwell May 26, 1825, and she died in 1834. Churchwell then married Sophia Moody Park in 1837.
