History:Miniature portrait medallion of Cherokee chief Cunne Shote painted in oil on tin about 1835 by an unknown artist. This portrait was produced after a full-scale portrait by the English artist Francis Parsons, painted in 1762. The full-size portrait is now in the collection of the Gilcrease Institute in Tulsa, Oklahoma. This miniature was acquired by the State Museum in 1994 and is considered to be in good condition.
Notes:Cunne Shote was a great warrior chief and one of the three Cherokee leaders who traveled to London in 1762 to reestablish relations with the English crown after the Cherokee-English War of 1759 - 1761.
