  • History:Subject is shown full face, with body turned slightly to his right, He is wearing a black suit, white shirt and vest, and a black four in hand tie with stick pin. A United Confederate Veterans Metal is attached to the left side of his vest. The artist signature is at lower right. Painting and frame in excellent condition.
  • Notes:Sumner Archibald Cunningham (1843 - 1913) founded the "Confederate Veteran" magazine in 1893 and served as editor until his death. He served in Company B, 41st TN Infantry. He was captured at Fort Donelson, exchanged at Vicksburg,and participated in the battles at Missionary Ridge, Chickamauga, Atlanta, Franklin and Nashville. .
