  • Description:Waist-length seated left profile of a young man, approx. 20 years old, wearing a blue coat with gold buttons and a gold vest. His chestnut-colored hair is brushed toward his face. The chair is red. Work is signed.
  • History:Painted from an engraving owned by the Metropolitan Museum of Art of New York City.
  • Notes:Subject lived from 1792-1864. He was the mayor of Philadelphia in 1829; the Democratic senator from PA in 1831-33; Minister to Russia from 1837-39 and vice-president to James K. Polk 1845-49. See also George Mifflin Dallas.
