  • Description:Subject is a young blond girl positioned to the viewer's right in a landscape setting and facing the viewer with her torso turned slightly right. Her hair is curly and shoulder length; her eyes are brown and looking directly at the viewer; and she is wearing a yellow short-sleeved dress with a white collar edged with lace.
  • History:Subject born April 1934 in NYC and died in Nashville, Tennessee. She was raised in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Parents, John and Henrietta Rose, and Grandparents, Henry and Stella Fitch, were friends of the artist who was also from Bowling Green. Sarah Gaines Peyton (1896-1997) studied at Randolph-Macon College, in NYC at Arts Students League, and with Sophronisba Hergesheimer. Artist signature is in lower right.
  • Notes: Henrietta Davis was a member of the Nashville Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and earned her PhD in Educational Administration from George Peabody College for Teachers. She was also the first female Director of Human Resorces at Vanderbilt University and then later served Tennesee State University in the same capacity.
