History:The portrait is in fair condition and is a folk artist rendition of the subject. The painting has probably been cut down, as the subject's left hand cuff is only partly visible, and his right fingertips are nipped off. The subject is wearing a black suit and tie. His white shirt is pleated in the front and the collar is winged. He holds a quill pen in his right hand and it rests upon a sheet of paper. There are books on a shelf behind him.
Notes:Caleb Jefferson Dickerson was a lawyer and newspaper editor in Columbia, TN (1820-1851). History of subject here if any information is known.
