History:This is an unsigned self-portrait of the artist George Dury at 18 years of age. The small oval is mounted in a rectangular gold plaster frame. The painting shows some cracking and paint loss on the surface of the coat and on the inner edges of the frame. The portrait was considered to be in fair condition in 1981. It was on exhibit at the Tennessee State Museum in conjunction with the Frist Center for the Arts exhibit Art of Tennessee September 2003 through January 2004.
Notes:George Dury was an artist from Bavaria who moved to Nashville in the mid 1800s and painted many prominent and local Tennesseans.
