  • History:This portrait was commissioned by the Vanderbilt Board of Trust in 1996 and hangs in Kirkland Hall.
  • Notes:Attending Vanderbilt one year, Bronson Ingram received B.A. degree from Princeton University in 1953. Having become a trustee on Vanderbilt's Board of Trust in 1967, he served as Vice President from 1988 to 1991 and President from 1991 until his death in 1995. Mr. Ingram formed one of the nation's largest and most successful privately held companies, Ingram Industries, Inc. He and his family endowed four faculty chairs in three Vanderbilt schools; endowed scholarships in women's and men's golf; endowed the Orrin Henry Ingram Scholarship in Engineering Management; made gift for various research projects in the School of Medicine; and endowed the Ingram Scholars Program in 1994, one of Vanderbilt's largest gifts. Named in his memory are the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center and the Ingram Studio Arts Center.
