Description:Waist-length nearly frontal of a man with black hair and sideburns and goatee. His cheeks are highly colored, and he is wearing a formal black coat, white shirt, and tie. His left hand rests on a mottled green table and holds a sheaf of papers. On the table his glasses (?) are atop a tan book with black cover highlights. A red drape is swaged and gathered on the right side of the frame. The frame is dark red and gold.
History:The owner's father remembers taking the work to the Tennessee State Museum in the 1980s for inspection and that James C. Kelly, curator, told him it was painted by Washington B. Cooper.
