  • Description:Oval bust-length of young man with dark hair and short sideburns. He is wearing a dark suit with two rows of buttons over a white shirt with a banded collar. He is facing slightly left and his eyes are turned to look directly at the viewer.
  • History: Portrait has been passed down through the Frazer, Stokes, Davis and Murfree families.
  • Notes:Subject was born in Bedford Dounty, Tennessee. He was the son of Hugh Frazer, who served in the Royal Scot Highland Regiment. Dr. James Frazer served with General Andrew Jackson's Army in the War of 1812, and he became the surgeon general of that army. He also participated in the First Seminole War of 1817-1818. He married Hannah Brown in November of 1818. They had two children, Henry Shelby Frazer and Martha Frazer. Subject died in 1832 in Wilson County, Tennessee.
