  • History:Portrait was painted by Lloyd Branson and presented to the State by the Governor's staff in 1905.
  • Notes:The son of a judge, James Beriah Frazier (1857-1937) was born in Bledsoe Co. He graduated from the University of Tennessee at 1878, was admitted to the bar in 1881, and opened a law practice in Chattanooga. Elected governor in 1902, he served during a time of prosperity, made great strides in the educational system and worked with the legislature to pass laws to regulate mining to make it a safer enterprise. He resigned in 1905 to take the seat of Senator William Bate, who had died in office. John Isaac Cox, speaker of the senate, finished his term. Frazier served in the U.S Senate until 1921 and died in 1937. The Tennessee Blue Book.
