  • History:The condition of this portrait in 1984 was considered good. It is a woman wearing a light colored gown with a ruffled collar, a brooch or pin in the center front of the dress and a red and gold shawl or cloak draped over her arms. She is wearing a length of gold material fashioned like a turban. The painting was restored in 1929 and as a result has been almost entirely overpainted.
  • Notes:Lee Ann Dibrell was born in Madison County, KY November 30, 1790. She married George Washington Gibbs of Nashville April 12, 1810. According to paper attached to portrait, this was the gown she wore when she attended the ball given in the Marquis de Lafayette's honor when he visited Nashville in May 1925. The subject moved with her husband to Obion County in 1837 and lived at Stockwood where she died May 19, 1876. See also file no. 84.16.2.
