Notes:Born in 1921 in Georgia, Dewey W. Grantham was a Vanderbilt University professor and scholar of twentieth-century southern history and politics. He attended the University of Georgia, served during World War II, and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before beginning his career at Vanderbilt in 1952. Grantham retired in 1991 after a distinguished career, having authored numerous books and archives and having received multiple awards and honors for his work. In 2001, Grantham donated his personal library to the Nashville Public Library, where it is housed in the Special Collection Division. Grantham died in 2004.
