Description:Mr. Gregg, middle-aged, with grey hair and full grey beard. His clothing is dark and he may be seated.
History:Donated to the library by Mrs. J. Francis McCloud, granddaughter of the Greggs. The portrait was examined in 2003 by the Cumberland Art Conservation Center. It was found to have been restored in the past, but the remedial measures taken at that time have since failed and need to be redone. The portrait needs to be cleaned and relined, and there is a hole in the canvas. The frame is also damaged.
Notes:Mr. and Mrs. Gregg came to Nashville from Scotland and opened Gregg's Bakery, later Mitchell's, which operated for over a century in the original location on Union Street.
