  • Description:Waist-length of older man wearing dark coat, white satin vest, blue ruffled shirt with a banded white high color. He has curly grey hair combed back from a widow's peak, and his blue eyes are looking directly at the viewer.
  • History:This is one of two known copies of this portrait.
  • Notes:Felix Grundy (1777-1840) was born in Berkeley County, VA. His family moved to Kentucky in 1780 and he was educated under Dr. James Priestly at Bardstown Academy. He served in the Kentucky legislature and a judge of the KY Supreme Court. He moved to Nashville in 1807 and represented Davidson County, TN in the House of Representatives, in the U.S. Congress and the U.S. Senate, and as U.S. Attorney General in President Van Buren's cabinet. Grundy was considered a great lawyer and orator. He died in Nashville at his home December 19, 1840.
