He went into business and built his home "Elm Grove" on Bledsoes Creek in Sumner County, Tennessee. He was born in 1827 in Harrisburg, PA and died in 1895. Married __________ Guthrie from Smith County, TN. She died shortly after and he next married Talitha Newby from Grant, TN. They had eight children. His 3rd wife was the widow of James K. Polk's nephew. She was called Mammy Kirk, and they had two children.
