  • Notes:James Priestley, a Presbyterian minister, moved to Nashville from Bardstown, KY to become President of Cumberland College from 1808 - 1921. Cumberland College was the institutional link between Davidson Academy, founded in 1785, and the University of Nashville (1826) which nurtured the State Normal College (1875) which later became Geo. Peabody College for Teahcers.
