Notes:When the United States Constitution was adopted in 1789, and George Washington was elected president, he appointed Henry Knox as his Secretary of War. In this position, Knox was William Blount's supervisor, since Knox was over all Superintendents of Indian Affairs in the territories, the post Blount held along with his governorship. The men did not get along and William Blount names the city of Knoxville after Henry Knox in the hopes of getting on his good side. Permission to reproduce by request only.
