  • Description:Black and white copy of a portrait of a young woman. Waist-length, she is dressed in an off-the-shoulder gown with a v-neckline and lace inset in the shape of an open fan. The sleeves are very billowy and the bodice tight. Her dark hair is worn up. No jewerlry or hands visible.
  • History:This photograph is the only record of an original by Earl. It is one of a number of paintings stolen from Cleveland Hall, Easter weekend 1986.
  • Notes:The subject was the daughter of Dr. William Pitt Lawrence and Nancy Pomeroy Risley. She was born Feb. 13, 1815 in Carthage, TN and died Apr. 7, 1845 at Cleaveland Hall. She married Rev. Abednego H. Stephens.
