Notes:John McCormick Lea (1818 - 1903) was born in Knoville, TN to Luke Lea and wife. He practiced law in Nashville in 1840. He married Elizabeth Overton, daughter of Judge John Overton in 1843. He served as Assistant U.S. District Attorney (1842 - 1845), Mayor of Nashville (1849) and Circuit Judge after the Civil War. He served one term in the TN House of Representatives. He was President of the Tennessee Historical Society (1888- 1903). He was part of the commission that surrendered Nashville to the Union Army in February 1862.
