Notes:Dr. Phillip Lindsley was born near Morristown, New Jersey and educated for the Presbyterian ministry at Princeton University. He moved to Nashville to become President of Cumberland College in 1824. For a quarter of a century he devoted his energies to the foundation of the educational eminence of Nashville. He resigned in 1850 and spent his last years in New Albany, New York. He died in Nashville while attending a General Assembly Conference of the Presbyterian Church.
