History: Miniature of Hannah Bogart painted by William Browning Cooper (son of Elizabeth Bogart Cooper, sister of Hannah). After the Civil War, the portrait was kept by the Cooper family. The inscription was written by owner's mother, who was a grand-daughter of Jonathan James Cooper, brother of Washington Bogart Cooper and William Browning Cooper. The brothers were sons of James Cooper and Elizabeth Bogart Cooper. Owner's mother was Mabel Walker who married Sterling Aubrey Turner. Her mother was Sallie Ann Cooper who married George Kells Walker of Shelby County, Tennessee.
Notes:Hannah and Elizabeth Bogart were daughters of Samuel Bogart (b1724 NJ – d1807 TN) and his wife Catherine Range (b1741 NJ – d1826 TN). The Bogart/Bogaert family of Holland migrated to NY/New Amsterdam in the early 1600s. Less is known about the Range family. The Cooper family moved to Tennessee from Virginia after the Revolutionary War. James Cooper's father was Abraham Cooper who married a Miss Browning – probably the the source of William Browning Cooper's middle name.
