Description:Waist-length three-quarter right profile of a man in a black suit and tie and white shirt. His dark straight hair is parted to the left of his left eye. A light running stain approximatley a foot long grazes his left cheek.
History:Work is documented in the Cooper book. A copy also exists.
Notes:Subject was born in 1812 and died in 1843. Sitter was the son of Dr.Francis and Mary McConnell White May. He was the youngest son of five children and grew up at Travellers Rest. He became the stepson of Judge Overton when his mother remarried in 1820. He married Eliza Fearn Perkins. They were also the parents of five children. He died at age 31 in an accident on the Franklin Pike near Travellers Rest when his carriage overturned.
