  • Description:Waist-length three-quarter right profile of older man with a receding silver hairline. He is wearing a black frock coat and white high-collared shirt. His silver sideburns are thick and reach to the bottoms of his ears. He holds a red book in his right hand and his left hand is at the bottom of the frame.
  • History:The work was given to the owner by Sheffield Clark, a descendant of John McAlister II. Sandor Bodo repaired smoke damage.
  • Notes:John McAlister II, son of John and Frances (Dysart) McAlister, was born in Taneytown, Maryland, in 1776. On December 25, 1800, he married the Widow Frances Aiken Thompson in Jonesborough, Tennessee. His will was probated in Williamson County, Tennessee, at the July Term 1827.
