  • Description:Waist-length of subject facing three-quarter right with her eyes turned to look directly at the viewer. Her wedding dress has a scoop neck with layers of lace accenting the neckline and shoulders. The sleeves are long, and the bodice is cut princess-style and banded with what appears to be ribbons. Her auburn hair is worn in an upsweep, and she is wearing no jewelry.
  • History:Subject commissioned the portrait in 1946 painted in her wedding dress - Given to her son Hunter McDonald Jr. at her death, then given by her grandson to his daughter Clara McDonald Milligan.
  • Notes:Mrs. Mcdonald was born at Cross Bridges in Maury County in 1867, daughter of Richard Cross Gordon and Mary Camp Webster. Subject died 2 September 1952, internment Rose Hill Cemetery in Columbia, Tennessee. Married 1892 - graduated from the old Columbia Institute in Columbia, Tennessee.
