  • Notes:Dr. Murfree was born in 1835 and died in 1912, both in Murfreesboro. He was a grandson of Col. Hardy Murfree for whom Murfreesboro was named. He married Ada Juliette Talley (granddaughter of Col. Charles Ready of Readyville). Dr. Murfree was a surgeon during the Civil War. After the war he opened a medical practice in Murfreesboro. He also went by train to The University of the South at Sewanee where he taught. (This latter fact was confirmed by Dr. Murfree's grandaughter, Libb Murfree Huggins Barham, who accompanied him on occasion when she was a little girl.)
