History:Portrait has passed down through the Murfree family.
Notes:Subject born in 1817 at his parents, William Hardy and Elizabeth Maney Murfrees, plantation near Franklin, Tennessee. He studed law at the University of Nashville. Subject married his first cousin, Fanney Priscilla Dickinson, both being grandchildren of Col. Hardy Murfree. The marriage occurred at Grantlands, the Dickinson's plantation in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, which they both lived in until it was burned during the Civil War. Subject's daughter was the widely published authoress, Mary Noailes Murfree. Subject died in 1892.
