Description:Seated, three-quarter length of subject wearing a red dress and facing three-quarter right with her head turned to direct her blue eyes at the viewer. The elaborate low-cut bodice has bows at each side and a blue ornament at the center. She is wearing pearl drop earrings and a single-strand pearl necklace. Her brown hair is parted on her left and pulled up and back. Her right arm rests behind her dress and her left hand is on her hip and has nail polish matching her dress and a ring on her ring-finger.

Notes:Mrs. Oates (member NSCDA) born 15 December 1909 died 3 January 2005 and Mrs. Blackford were childhood friends in summer colony. Mrs. Oates from Memphis, Tennessee and Mrs. Blackford from Birmingham, Alabama.
