History:Portrait appears to have been completely overpainted. The signature of the artist differs from his other paintings, but the difference may be due to the overpainting. According to William Cooper's account book, he began a painting of Bishop Otey in January 1846. Subject is a caucasian man dressed in white priest robe, white jabot, and a long black scarf.
