Notes:Judge John Overton (1766-1833) was born in Louisa County, VA. He taught school for a while before moving to Kentucky to study law, where it is thought that he met Rachel Donelson Robards. On his move to Nashville, he roomed with Andrew Jackson. He and Jackson became friends, law partners and partners in land deals. Overton, Jackson and General Winchester founded Memphis, TN. He married the widow, Mary McConnel White May at age 54 and had 3 children. His home, Travellers Rest, is owned by the Colonial Dames of Tennessee and is open as a museum in Nashville, TN.
