    • Description:Portrait of John Overton, son of Judge John Overton and Mary McConnell White May Overton. Seated position with black coat, tie and white shirt.
    • History:Donated September 2015 to Travellers Rest Historic House Museum by Elizabeth Overton Cavert Cravens, great- granddaughter of subject.
    • Notes:John Overton, also known as Colonel Overton, was married to Harriet Virginia Maxwell. They had six children- Martha Maxwell, Jesse May, Mary McConnell, Elizabeth Lea, Jesse Maxwell, Robert E. Lee. Portrait canvas was orginally a rectangular shape and at some point has been cut into an oval shape to fit in circa 1870-1880 oval frame. in 2016 portrait conserved by Cumberland Art Conservation and frame was restored by Reed's Gold Leaf Studio.
