  • Description:Three-quarter length of woman seated on wood-trimmed red settee and facing three-quarter left. She is wearing a gray v-necked, sleeveless dress with cloth-covered buttons on the bodice that is open to reveal a multi red-hued underskirt. Her hands are folded in her lap, and she is looking to the viewer's right. Her hair is dark, curly and pulled back over her ears. A drop earring is seen in her right ear. The background is a mottled purple, and there is a plant to the left of the settee.
  • History:From Paris, Tennessee, Pearl Routon, who passed away in 1963, was a portrait artist who painted the portraits of Gov. Frank G. Clements and his wife and of Gov. James Porter. 'Miss Pearl' is created with being the person who selected the iris to be the State Flower of Tennessee. Her husband, Stephen James Routon, was a state senator in 1957. In 1957, Pearl Routon was featured on Ralph Edwards 'This Is Your Life,' and Gov. Clement appeared on the show to talk about all that she had done for the state. She was the second woman to be named an honorary colonel on the Governor's staff - Dinah Shore was the first.
