Notes:1855, grocer in Nashville. 1866, moved to New Orleans & conducted commission business in cotton & tobacco. 1878, returned to Nashville & became president of First National Bank. 1894-1919, member of Vanderbilt University's Board of Trust. Web Site: http://www.tngenweb.org/records/tn_wide/obits/nca/nca08-06.htm lists Keith's date of death as 1909, rather than 1919 and adds in obituary listing from January 14, 1910: "SAMUEL J. KEITH born Jackson Co., Tenn., 1830; died Ridgetop, Tenn., July 1909; president of Fourth National Bank, Nashville, Tenn. for years; married Elizabeth Bell Snyder, 1865. He was 6' and robust of physique." This calls the exact name of bank also into question.
