  • History:There is considerable overpaint all around crude and old repairs. There appear to be fire blisters throughout the lower half of the painting. It has been cleaned and restored in 1997.
  • Notes:Judge Edward Scott (?? - 1852) was clerk of the TN House of Representatives 1799-1805. He was residing in Knoxville in 1811 and then moved to Nashville. He served as Circuit Judge of Law & Equity for the second circuit , 1815-1844. He published Scott's Revisal of the Statutes of Tennessee and of the Charters and Statutes of North Carolina, 1820 still used in the legal profession today. He moved to Mississippi "about 1847." His portrait was presented by anonymous donors soon after the establishment of the Tennessee State Library.
