  • History:In his account book, Cooper states that he began a copy of a Peale portrait of John Sevier January 1845. The frame was repaired in 2001 and loss areas filled and painted touched up. It is considered to be in good condition.
  • Notes:John Sevier (1745-1815) served in the American Revolution and commanded the King's Mountain men at the Battle of Sycamore Shoals. He won all battles with the Indians in the Tennessee area. He was instrumental in the failed attempt to form the State of Franklin. He served as the first Governor of Tennessee serving a total of six terms, 1796-1801 and 1803-1809.
