Description:Portrait of Matilda Walker Miller Tagg. Posed seated and facing three-quarter left with brown eyes turned to look at the viewer and a closed smile on her lips. She is wearing a dark dress with white lace at the collar and cuffs of the sleeves, and her right hand (visible) is resting on the arm of the chair. Her hair is dark, parted in the middle, and secured behind her ears. There is a brooch at the neck of the dress attached to the lace, and the background of the painting appears to be a mottled landscape.
History:These two paintings (this one and the one of her husband, Joseph Tagg) have been passed down through the family line. They are of the owner's great great grandparents. The owner is the last descendant of this line of relatives and is looking for a suitable home for these two paintings after his death.
Notes:Matilda Walker Miller was born 28 August 1829. She married Joseph Tagg on 29 February 1848 in Memphis, Tennessee. She died in Cleveland, Ohio, on 30 October 1856.
