Description:White-haired clean-shaven man with ear-length sideburns seated in a red chair. Burgundy and gold Masonic stole with 11 stars and central medallion and right shoulder epaulette worn over dark suit, black tie, and white shirt. Scale of right hand suggests the subject was small in stature.
History:Signed "W. B. Cooper" in lower left. Restoration in 2010 sponsored by Tennessee Lodge of Research. The artist, Washington Bogart Cooper, was commissioned to paint most of the Grand Masters, which explains the approximate date of Claiborne's portrait. A copy is in the collection of the Nashville Public Library.
Notes:Masonic Grand Master years 1817-1818, 1820-1821, 1824, 1841-1842.
