Description:Full frontal bust-length of a young woman with ringlet curls. Her head is tilted slightly toward her right. Her dress is off-the-shoulder white lace and embellished by a small bouquet of camelias. A dark wrap is visible around her shoulders. Case has red velvet interior.
History:The artist was born at Dover, Tennessee and first studied painting in Nashville. He left Tennessee permanently about 1835 and had a long, successful career in up-country South Carolina. Probably painted in Nashville, Clarksville, or Dover Exhibited at Huntsville 1996; Gibbes 2000.
