History:The portrait was given to the University in 1958 by Mr. Cole's son, Whitefoord Cole, Jr. and hangs in Kirkland Hall along with other portraits of former presidents of the Board of Trust.
Notes:Son of E.W. and Anna Russell Cole, Whitefoord R. Cole was president of the Vanderbilt Board of Trust from 1915 until his death in November 1934. An 1894 alumnus of Vanderbilt, Mr. Cole served as president of both the NC&St.L. and L&N railroads. Cole Hall, a dormitory built in 1949, is named in his memory.
