  • History:This portrait was commissioned by Vanderbilt's Board of Trust in 1986. It hangs in Kirkland Hall on the campus.
  • Notes:A 1923 alumnus, William S. Vaughn was the first Vanderbilt student to accomplish a straight ""A"" record. He went on to earn further degrees at Rice Institute in Houston and as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford. Upon returning to the U.S. in 1928, he began work for Eastman Kodak, a career that lasted forty-five years. Before retiring in 1973, he has served as president and chairman of the board. A Trustee on the Vanderbilt Board of Trust for forty-three years, he served as its president from 1968 - 1975.
