  • Description:Seated oval portrait of young girl with body facing three-quarter right, resting on her left hand, and with her head tilted to look slightly up over her left shoulder and toward the viewer's right. She is wearing a capped-sleeve pink dress with lace overlay and a square neckline outlined in lace. She has dark brown, curly hair with wisps curling over her forhead. Her eyes are blue, and her left hand is resting on a bouquet of pastel flowers.
  • History:This portrait and #1237 in Out-of-State category were originally one portrait of the Williams children. One boy died as a young child. In this portrait part of a young boy's face is visible in strong light in the left lower side. It is unknown when the portrait was cut into two in order to please the grown daughters of Saidee Overton. It has been conserved by Cumberland Art Conservation.
  • Notes:Subject was the first child (of six) of Elizabeth "Lizzie" Cheney Wiilams and John Phillip Williams. She was born in Murfreesboro,TN Mar, 21,1872. She married Jesse Maxwell Overton in 1890 & She died Oct. 19,1963. Another portrait of her is #80.
